i know this topic has already been started, but I can't be bothered going through a hundred or so topics to find it. Does anyone know of any free or fairly cheap web hosts and domain names that are accessible with JAWS? I have included links to other sites on some of my pages and I know some hosts don't support that. I was trying to use IIS to host from my own computer because then I don't get stupid adverts, but I can't seem to make it visible to others without a lot of messing around, so just gave up on that idea. I am also looking for a domain name. I tried using the .cc domain, but that's not very helpful because firefox seems to have trouble solving those captchas. Any ideas? Thanks.

Check out www.mochahost.com. They're pretty cheep and they've got a free domain offer available for .com and .net domains.

I use byethost (byethost.com).
I host my domain eurpod.com for $3.00 a month. Granted, I transferred the domain, I know they have some sorta free offering. :)

go google it, there's hundrets of products available out there. some come with domain name as a package, some don't. but it is not expendsive to get a domain name, somewhare in between $10 a year? depends on what sort. .com is one of the most expendsive choice.
if you're only hosting a very small website, like your own personal webpage or some sort of that, you can use free web hosting servers available there. they usually have a limited upload and download, verries from 500MB to 5GB per month if you're lucky. some even provides you a domain name, but you can use your own domain name and forward it to the particular servers.

let me know if you need more imformation, i'm surer i have it somewhare, just the matter of digging it out. :)

Okay, I really haven't quite gotten to the point that my site is ready to put up on the web, but I've been trying to find good web hoasting places. My questions is since I'm writing my site from scratch in xhtml with css in MS notepad; will some of these hosting sites like Mocha and others allow me to upload this type of format?

I know my pages work as when I save as html they open in my browser, but they don't stay there.
Any help would be appreciated.

Most of them should do, it's when you start getting to other stuff like PHP and that you want to worry. Just wondering, do the hosts mentioned here put adverts on our sites? Also I've put several links to other websites on some of my pages, so would this affect where I would be able to host my site?

I have no idea, but I hope not about the links to other sites cause that's dealing with half of my site.

Why would it matter? all the host is doing is hosting your pages. I don't think they care what they do as long as they don't break any laws or anything like that. Of course you can put links to other sites, otherwise if that weren't true, my 50webs page would've been taken down.

Harmony - what do you want? If you want something that gives your own domain such as harmony.com my guess is you'd have to be prepared to spend some money.

If you don't mind something which hosts your domain on its own servers, for example harmony.seniorsites.com, you should be able to find plenty of options, though Google and Yahoo! have closed their free hosting services.

I did sign up for homestead which is one I've payed for, but haven't put anything up there yet because the site's so slow, but I might have a look at it again.

I don't really care if I have to pay for a host and domain name as I sort of expected to anyway. I just didn't want to pay like lots of money. I should be able to find a hosting and domain name thing for like $30 or under per month, right?
I want to use my own domain name like with with .com or .net in it and as long as I can figure out how to get my pages to the host server, I don't mind paying for the space my site will take up.

Has anyone used the machahost server before?

I haven't heard of that one to be honest.

well there are a ton of hosting companies out there now that will give you unlimited hosting and bandwith and etcfrom anywhere from $6 to $8 a month with your domain name costing you about $10 a year and maybe even less if you pay for multiple years at once. The only trick with those are however they usually want tyou to pre pay for a year or 2 years upfront. (of course the monthly cost will be less if you pre pay for 2 years instead of one). www..powweb.com is probably the least expensive one i have found that uses this business model. Other wise www.godaddy.com is the least expensive i have found if you want a ton of stuff and don't want to have to prepay for a year or 2 at a time, however go daddy also offers discounts if you choose to prepay for a year. actually all of them offer the option to not pre pay for a year but it will cost more not to with a company like powweb.

actually .com .net and.org are the least expensive ones, if you want a .us or .mobi, or .tv oranything else is where it gets more expensive.
